HAROLD SCHLOTZHAUER works with fluid boundaries between abstraction and representation. His compositions merge the polarities of objective and non-objective configurations. It is a world of energy movement and change where the viewer can interpret complex relationships without pictorial dogma or absolute representation. Functional objects and parts of things can be identified and symbolic relationships can be determined, but complete access to a rational conclusion is left to the audience. Schlotzhauer offers a curious ambiguity in his work for the pleasure of imagining possibilities.
Chaucer’s abstract works are meditations on the primal and chaotic matrix we exist within. In this sense his work appears as harmonious relationships between nature and humanity. Some appear as a mental state characterized by a profound sense of intensified sensory perception, others as a path to stillness. These are explanations unique to the complexities involved with basic human emotion for Chaucer as he works to recognize and represent patterns that he feels exist in the atmosphere of constant truths and realities.
